PACS imaging is the new trend in storing the images scanned out of the CT scan, X-Rays, MRI, and Ultrasound. In the conventional methods the images were stored in films. With the help of the PACS imaging system the scanned images are stored in the computers directly. With this method any number of images can be stored in succession for the same patient in a single scan session.
In the conventional methods, X-Ray Film Recycling has to done after a certain period when the film accumulates in the hospitals. With the PACS imaging system such recycling is avoided. A PACS system that is used in the orthopedic department is called the orthopedic PACS. In this the images related to orthopedics are stored in the system for later access and scrutiny.
PACS imaging system is a networked system. Hence the same image can be viewed by many radiology experts and doctors simultaneously and decide on the course of the treatment needed. Even experts in the remote locations can view the images in the PACS imaging system and give their opinion.
Even before the patients leaves the hospital suggestions on the treatment recommended can be given. There is no need for the patients to carry the films. Instead they can opt for the images in CDs from the PACS imaging system if needed.
